The Chrism Mass is one of the highlights of the church year. It it the Mass which the Bishop celebrates with his priests and people during Holy Week. In the course of this Mass the priests and deacons reaffirm their commitment to their vocation and the Bishop blesses the Oils which will be used in parishes throughout the coming year.
This year's Chrism Mass will take place on the morning of 17th April, in the Cathedral.
As usual, the music for the Chrism Mass will be led by the Diocesan Choir. There will also be a brass quartet, the Cathedral choir and more.
The music list includes the following:
- God, Our Fountain of Salvation (Walker)
- Lift High the Cross
- Amazing Grace
- In faith, in Hope (Walker)
- The Coventry Mass (Jones)
- Lord, you give the great Commission
- Call to the Holy Spirit (Richard Jeffrey-Gray)
- plus more.
If you would like to be part of the choir on this occasion please note that there will be rehearsals before the event (see below). Please note that because of the nature of the Chrism Mass and the complexity of its music, we will require that people attend at least one rehearsal before the day.
Sunday April 14th (Palm Sunday) – Clifton Cathedral, 3pm
Each session lasts two hours or so.
If you would like us to hold a rehearsal near you please let us know and we'll do our best to arrange one.
If you are planning on being part of the choir for this celebration, please fill out the form below. Please note that doing so doesn't mean a commitment to actually attend, but will allow us have some feel for the number of people we might expect and will allow us to keep you informed of the rehearsals. In the notes section please include details such as your parish, your voice part (soprano, alto, tenor, bass), rehearsal ideas and requests and any other extra information.
