Chrism Mass update

Dear Diocesan Musicians,

Many thanks to those who have registered to sing at the Chrism Mass.

For those who have registered, a reminder that the first rehearsal at Clifton Cathedral is next Sunday, 6th April, at 3pm-5pm. All the music you require will be provided, but if you want to buy some beforehand let us know by replying to this email (or email martin@cliftonms.com) and we'll tell you how to get hold of it.

The music list includes:

  • Sands: Sing of the Lord's Goodness
  • Le Poidevin: Make Me a Channel of Your Peace
  • Geary: Gloria Tintinnabuli
  • Walker: O Lord I Will Sing
  • Farrell: Praise to you O Christ our Saviour
  • Ogden: Hymn of Chrism
  • Rutter: For the Beauty of the Earth
  • Le Poidevin: Ss Peter and Paul Eucharistic Acclamations and Lamb of God
  • Purcell: Westminster Abbey (Lord you Give the Great Commission) with Monteverdi Amen

If you want to listen to some of these pieces in advance, so that you're familiar with how they go, here are some suggested links:

Rutter - For the Beauty of the Earth (this is a YouTube link - there are plenty more similar recordings on YouTube and elsewhere). We won't have the drum kit!

Le Poidevin - Make me a channel of your peace - this recording by the composer will teach you the melody. We'll be singing a four-part harmony version in the Chrism Mass

Sands - Sing of the Lord's Goodness - the opening song.

Geary - Gloria Tintinnabuli. Tintinnabuli means 'bell-like'. We'll be singing this as the Glory to God in the Mass.

We hope that you enjoy these pieces and that you'll look forward to the rehearsals - and if you haven't decided yet on whether to come along, that you'll now feel that you'd like to take part. And persuade your friends to come, too.

Clifton Music Service website

The Clifton Music Service website at cliftonms.com has some great resources on it for you to use, plus more information about the Music Service, which is updated on a regular basis with news of Diocesan Music and cathedral services.

Give us some idea of what you want to see on it (for instance, a Mass/Service planner is in development, and we hope to get some forums going again soon) and we'll do our best to implement them.
