Welcome to the Clifton Music Service newsletter

Clifton Music Service is the Diocesan Music Service for the Clifton Diocese. We are based at Clifton Cathedral. This newsletter contains news about diocesan events. The focus is on interactivity - we want to hear what you're doing, what you're thinking and we want to find out how we can help you, as well as giving you the chance to take part..

You are receiving this newsletter either because you have expressed an interest in music in the diocese, because you are on one of our lists of contacts or because we know you!

If you no longer wish to receive this newsletter, please contact us and we'll take you off our mailing list.

Diocesan Musicians Mass

The Diocesan Musicians Mass is just one month away.

It takes place in the Cathedral on 25th November at 6pm (the Feast of Christ the King), and we want as many people as possible to join in with the singing and music making on this great musical occasion. All musicians from the Diocese are invited to come along and join in.

Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Declan.

The music will include the Mass of St Paul the Apostle by Christopher Walker, Cantate Domino by Pitoni, some plainsong, hymns and plenty more music.

We will rehearse during the afternoon, starting at 2.30pm - and there will be a chance for a cup of tea or coffee before the Mass.

As well as celebrating music, singing with fellow musicians and taking part in a major festival at the cathedral, the day will prove an ideal chance to meet other musicians from around the Diocese, to chat and share ideas and experiences. It will also mark the end of the first official year of the new translation (and the fact that we've all survived it!), and commemorate the Feast Day of St Cecilia, Patron Saint of Musicians, whose Feast Day is November 22nd.

Please tell friends and colleagues from your own parish and from neighbouring parishes about this event - the more singers and musicians we can get, the better it will be! Although we know that it's the Feast of Christ the King and that many people will be involved in their own parishes, if you can arrange for your musical Mass to be in the morning so that you can attend in the evening, that would be fantastic.

If you can join in our celebration, please click here to register your interest - this will help us ensure that we have enough copies and enough teas and biscuits available!

Clifton Cathedral Choir Scholarships

Clifton Cathedral Choir is offering a new scheme of Scholarships and Exhibitions for young people aged 16 and over. This is a great opportunity for young musicians to sing some of the world's greatest music in one of the country's leading liturgical settings, and to learn from experience musicians with a range of expertise.

More details on the Scholarships and on how to apply for them from the Clifton Music Service website at cliftonms.com. Please let any young people in your part of the diocese know about the .

Diocesan Choir Co-ordinator

If anybody can offer some help as a Diocesan Choir Co-ordinator on a voluntary basis, please let Martin Le Poidevin know. Responsibilities would include reminding Martin about things, helping to arrange events and so on.

Clifton Music Service website

The Clifton Music Service website at cliftonms.com has some great resources on it for you to use, plus more information about the Music Service, which is updated on a regular basis with news of Diocesan Music and cathedral services.

There is also a section with music which has been written by some of our Diocesan musicians.

Give us some idea of what you want to see on it (for instance, a Mass/Service planner is in development, and we hope to get some forums going soon) and we'll do our best to implement them.

Oh, and we've also got a Twitter account. Follow us at @cliftonmusic
